From surveys to videos, this week has been a long and interesting for e-cigarettes and other related news. I appreciate you and your attention to what I deem important and hope you share what you see as important in your circles.

EcigIntelligence Annual U.S. Consumer Survey 2018

It’s survey time for U.S. consumers. Challenges in the United States are far from over. Your voice counts. As a consumer, your data is both necessary and imperative.

Billions in anti-tobacco funds spent elsewhere

I’m still speechless concerning this pyramid / ponzi scheme placed upon smokers, then less smokers, while the public is conned into believing the tobacco companies pay tobacco control to do almost usless “work”.

20 years after settlement, billions in anti-tobacco funds spent elsewhere

Related: “Where We Stand” (see contrived)

(Bold, color, italics are my emphasis)

At 1:16:41 — “e-cigarettes and the like – thus far no pure vape product has been uh.. none of the parties have asserted they are in the MSA – the definition of a tobacco product (MSA) is different than a tobacco product under the FDA act…”

  • The Master Settlement Agreement is a contract
  • The Master Settlement Agreement does not expire.
  • Lock up funding by ballot measure/constitutional amendment if possible

I’m NOT going to stop asking this question: Can ‘nicotine’ (defined) as “tobacco” become a legal challenge?

Vape shop owner considers suing Gallatin Co. Health Dept.

I have been intrigued by what Deanna and Ron Marshall have allowed us to see so far. The owners of Freedom Vapes in Boseman, Montana have utilized the “Freedom Of Information Act” to find the information we common people wouldn’t normally… see… and we can’t unsee it.

Gottlieb has lost his mind and credibility

Gottlieb LIES again

Future suicides along with 93% failure rates will be the prescribed norm for the well advertised and manufactured epidemic… because NO one in “Public Health” has balls to admit nicotine is not the problem. Of course, this is fully sponsored by Tobacco-Free Kids and endorsed by “Dr.” Gottleib.

The new numbers of the “epidemic” rise in e-cigarette use have yet to be released.

Continued efforts to address growing epidemic of youth e-cigarette use, including potential new therapies to support cessation

  • I’ve, to the best of my ability, diagnosed & concluded Dr. Gottlieb is suffering from (among other things), a psychological condition called cognitive dissonance.
  • I also concluded this condition may, could, might or possibly be caused by nicotine deficiency in his system.

It sounded better than just calling him an incompetent buffoon. (You’re welcome).

Climbing Mountains

I asked for comments when I conducted my survey. One of those memorable comments was about climbing mountains.

Now, along with runners like Chris Baxter and Jerry Iozzo (among others), here is Dominique Rodriguez explaining his accomplishments and his climb to the highest mountains.

Can you quit smoking with patches and gums?

Quit smoking patch gum

CAN you quit smoking with patches and gums?

Are attempts with these quit smoking products successful? Can you find success rates for them? Do they work? Can you quit smoking? I’m sure there are a few who will say yes. I say it is a deceptive practice to say you can.

In fact, the practice is on the smoker with an average of THIRTY tries.

That’s right.

“Understanding that for many smokers it may take 30 or more quit attempts before being successful may assist with clinical expectations.”

Estimating the number of quit attempts it takes to quit smoking successfully in a longitudinal cohort of smokers

To quit smoking with any approved method is a challenge. Why is that?  Can you quit with Nicorette® patches and gums? I asked, not so innocently, for success rates with Nicorette® product(s). I was given an 800 number to get personalized attention.  Has anyone ever thought to ask as they were purchasing their product? I’m always asking silly rhetorical questions. It’s a hobby.

Will quitting be successful for you?

If they were as successful as commercials and graphics are intended to make you “feel” by helping people quit smoking, wouldn’t they say so immediately? Give me something, like a 94% satisfaction rate. 85% of our customers are smoke-free. Repeat the successful rates of the product to potential customers, not the success of repeat customers trying again. Fine, I’m reaching for the perverbial stars, I suppose.

I’m guessing a 7% success rate.

What are success rates for Nicorette® patches and gums? I don’t know. Nicorette® evidently doesn’t either. It is that time of year, with New Years Eve coming up, ads will be convincing you that you can succeed. Keep trying. Do your best. Their subtle guilt trip illusions are coming.

I asked  “What are the success rates with your product” directly to Nicorette®,  made by Glaxo-Smith Kline on Twitter. I didn’t think it would be a hard question.

Not that Glaxo-Smith Kline would ever do anything to deter any other method of…..

Can you quit smoking?

People spend hours looking up the reviews on the latest appliance they’re thinking about purchasing, but spend 30 seconds deciding on an “approved” method, because you know, if it isn’t an approved method, it must be (bad, dangerous, unproven, deceitful, not taxable, pharma’s idea) just plain wrong.

There are times in some smokers lives where they either choose to quit smoking, or because of various reasons, want to quit. In my instance, I switched to vaping accidentally. I had, however, tried the patches and gums years before and they just didn’t work.

I didn’t even think to ask the doctor about success rates, I assumed they worked. So does the rest of the world. I’d like to see success rates after 6 months, 1 year, heck, call me crazy, 5 years – with relapse rates. (With all that data-driven stuff people like to blab about). Implying that it works isn’t enough any more. Proof by assertion isn’t enough.

How about real world stuff… still waiting.

I’ll direct you here:

I am guiding you to this by Amy Renshaw from Vanderbilt University:

The Real Story Behind The Nicotine Patch and Smoking Cessation

DO they work? This article stated “the most rigorous long-term study” said no”.

Mine, where, ~dare I say~ patches and gums do not work because you are not addicted to nicotine itself. You are possibly addicted to the other chemicals or chemical reactions within smoking tbacco, but nicotine “addiction” without tobacco simply does not exist. Period.

There is no data or science showing nicotine “addiction” without tobacco and MAOI’s.

It’s like I’m a mind reader… really….

In fact, (added 12/21/17)

Why Is Smoking Addictive? It’s Probably Not Just Nicotine, Despite What We’ve Been Told For Years

Then this came up 12/22/17:

Nicotine patches and medications aren’t enough to quit smoking, a study finds

Nicotine is not addictive.

I rephrased my question, at the time of publishing this blog, there was no response.

My guess is a 93% failure rate.

Don’t take my word for it.

The patches and gums “may, could, might” work. I would say percentages of success are 7%, and I’m being very optimistic with that. For your own sanity, call the company and ask them about success rates. Ask your doctor. Let me know how they respond.

Tobacco Control experts are having a bad week with credibility, integrity

Manipulation, deception, abuse of power, control.

Tobacco Control Experts Are Having A Bad Week

With credentials at stake, two of the top (“self-proclaimed”) experts in the tobacco control world have had their reputations questioned this week. Both are were highly regarded by each other along with a select group of individuals. Both are under fire.

Both of the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty, of course, in a court of law.

Allegations

First and most serious are allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation by Professor Stanton Glantz in California’s University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Certainly Glantz is another in the scope of accusations against politicians, Hollywood, and other places in the world.

glantz paper 2

Within court documents, it shows “in my opinion”, accusations of manipulation of research.

glantz paper

The full court documents, in this case, are available here.

glantz pointing

Stan, according to his user profile at UCSF is”the Truth Initiative Distinguished Professor of Tobacco Control”. Well known in the anti-tobacco world, he has been no stranger to controversy over conduct with research in the past.

Christopher Snowden covers that eloquently here:

Stanton Glantz: Then and now.

Research Credibility

With the obvious larger issues at hand, and although not charged,  Federal Research Misconduct *may, *might, or *could also stem from this case.

Research misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results.

  • Fabrication is making up data or results and recording or reporting them.
  • Falsification is manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record.3
  • Plagiarism is the appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit.
  • Research misconduct does not include honest error or differences of opinion.

Manipulation, deception, persuasion, abuse of power, control.

*The reason (not that I need one) I mention the research misconduct above is because of what Lorien says below.

Each time this happens, I hear the (paraphrase) words “a man in his position should know better”. I’d like to re-word that bullshit statement. NO man (or woman) should put themselves IN that position.

I do NOT understand why this is acceptable.

I am also waiting for Truth Initiative and UCSF to release a statment.

This world has long been a 24 hour news cycle. Tick. Tock.

*Update 12/8/17: Glantz has made a statement on his blog: Statement regarding litigation filed by Dr. Eunice Neeley:

Seems Stan accidentally deleted his page… could be a glitch…

 *Update 12/8/17:

There comes a time where things need to be said. People in charge need to be pointed out. There have been things that no one, specifically Simon Chapman, wanted to talk about, like suggestions of law, regulations, and opinion to manipulate nicotine in this instance, but “don’t talk about it”.

Public health, is top secret stuff, evidently.

Act Like An Expert

I’ve proudly called Simon Chapman a “chimpmanzee” among other obvious things here.

As an “expert” in tobacco control, it’s been pointed out by much smarter people than I am (in many instances) that Simon is wrong. You’d think, with his Ph.D. in social medicine that he would know better.

It isn’t the first time Mr. Chapman has been called out here, here & here.

Christopher Snowden could go on here.

chapman1.JPG

An assertion does not make you correct

This one is one of my favorite instances of assertion by Simon Chapman, and it still puzzles me as to why he would ever make such a rookie professional mistake.

Remember, this statement is from a tobacco control EXPERT influencing public HEALTH and tobacco control. I’d expect such a person to know everything there is to know about nicotine.

If you happen to be an “expert”, act like one. Make it a goal to know more than common people like me, or Judith below.

chapman nicotine.JPG

Even in his retirement, he wants to assert control.

Name calling and… well, who’s above that…

I’ve thought of calling Simon Chapman a “pretentious prick”. A “man-child”. I’ve thought “what an arrogant pompous ass”, yet I’ve only given time and effort where I thought it may be most appropriate. Like now.

It isn’t like Chapman would ever call anyone attempting to engage him properly,  (yes I did) trolls.

Let us clear the decks, call out the lies of those who have more power and funding than brains who are influencing idiotic policy with less than desireable required credentials and force them to answer the questions publicly.

I don’t want to waste any more of our time.

You can see Senator Leyonhjelm who has balls, discussing Simon Chapman below.

“…Department of Health was so taken aback by Simon Chapman’s false statements that they felt the need to go on the record and clear things up”

“Ill-informed, willfully ignorant and downright malicious”

“Snake oil salesman come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they take the guise of an emeritus professor of sociology” ~ Senator Leyonhjelm

Don’t spread this around, Simon is talking about litigation.

Spell my name right, Simon.

As a footnote, the last time I wrote about my pal Simon, he graciously reviewed my inane drivel on Twitter. I aspire to do the same again. Seriously.

Gasping for Tobacco “Control”

money-laundering 3

Gasping for Tobacco Control

However subtle and contrived – or loud the gasps become, the fight for tobacco revenue continues. Tobacco control assumes it’s their money. They want to feed their addiction by continuing their charade.

They want to continue funding manipulating motivating the public under the pretense of trying to “protect” health and making the world better. Hmm.

Because they are criminals.

Vera daCosta e Silva made some delusional points in her blog in the BMJ about (the) Foundation for a Smoke Free World, claiming the “tobacco industry’s corporate social responsibility programmes are an abomination” and “Such projects are designed to mislead or confuse public opinion.”

I fixed her statement for her:

For decades, tobacco tax dollars have funded influence buying, covert activities and scientific misrepresentation from tobacco “control“.

It sounds like Vera is defining screaming gasping a long standing tobacco control chant so now one looks at the incestuous and criminal relationship with pharma and their untreated addiction to continued tobacco sales.

Derek Yach openly responded as expected, but no plans of being sensible are to be found at this time.

They aren’t listening. Still, their incessant chanting is comforting to them as if the white noise drowns the sounds of their collective, soulless, arrogant mouths gasping for air.

I asked her myself where tobacco control funds derive… (‘cause who doesn’t like a good question to an expert….) I don’t expect an answer any time soon.

Here’s a fun example of failure. Claims of tobacco related diseases continue to RISE worldwide, according to Matt Myers. His claim?  “But we can stop it”… Seems the more money squandered stolen, the higher the alleged death toll… nobody’s noticing this trend yet?

Failure is a business model, evidently. Tobacco control, after 50+ years… is still in “business”.

More Tobacco Money

Here in the next link are a slew of links and the promise of the ever-present catch phrase, “win-win”, as to how tobacco control likes money derived from sales of tobacco from my pal Matt Myers.

State Tobacco Taxes

Helpful bastards, eh?

Here’s how they lie about nicotine.

Here’s how they’re helping smokers quit.

Here’s where the criminal enterprise wants you to keep smoking.

Corporate Capitulation To The Zealots

Finally, if you’ve made it this far…. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen ‘s blog before… but I like it.

With more bullshit to walk through, Tobacco companies will be forced to lie and advertise on television…  stop rubbing your eyes, don’t read it twice… This is court ordered.

Meanwhile….

This will cure your curiosity.

Letter to the World Health Organization ~ Deception ~ Bad Laws ~ Tobacco use on the rise ~  Classification of Twitter Users ~ Social Media Snooping ~ De-Addiction ~ Key issues, health impacts of “ends”.

There seems to be a pattern…….The scream test, deception, bad laws, mining tweets and manipulation of the public continues.

Meanwhile, sales of “approved” nicotine products, and the ethical responsibilities of those “in charge” continue to decline.

This is Vaping In The News –  for the week ending September 30th, 2017

Letter to the World Health Organization

Derek Yach releases a statement responding directly TO the World Health Organization.

Their statement is here.

This is #louder.

“It also commits that we will support independent scientific research free from the influence of any commercial entity that may be affected by the research outcome.”

Letter to the World Health Organization

André Calantzopoulos CEO of Philip Morris had this to say:

Deception

When and where will the line be drawn for those who are allegedly in the care and custody of what is the best interest of public health?

Think for a moment. If e-cigarettes were only “half” as “harmful” as cigarettes, where is the obligation by “professionals” to relay this to the public immediately?

I’ve asked this question a thousand times… why are they promoting smoking?

What are the ramifications of their deceit?

This was posted in a group I belong to on Facebook. There is common sense in the world. When I, or someone else finds common sense content, I get a little giddy…

Tobacco Use On The Rise

Speaking of BAD laws. The “Tobacco 21” movement can already suffer a loss. Seems the town of Cohasset had enacted the law last year and can already show a “spike”… in 12th graders – it went from 9% to 33% in two years…

Here’s where they blame the perception, and of course the children, not the ineffective law.

This is more like “de-addiction” to their revenue……….and they don’t LIKE it.

I LOVE it when the disruption is SO blatant and clear… and it’s in print.

Pfft… “de-addiction”…

“This has resulted into implementation of regulations and legislations for drugs and electronic cigarettes, which will further curb growth of the market in North America.”

Key issues  –  Health Impacts of “ends”.

Here’s where the American Cancer Society decides it concludes it doesn’t have any conclusions after more than ten years, in classic “run on sentence” and confusing fashion.

Without Integrity. Tobacco Harm Reduction In The U.S.A.

19

The tug of war on tobacco has gone on since 1964. Lets face it. It’s been almost 52 years since January 11th, 1964.

The Surgeon General at that time, Dr. Luther L. Terry, announced “an astounding conclusion: smoking causes cancer”  in front of  200 reporters behind locked doors. His decision to announce this must have come at some price. Imagine the pressure then, even then.

The Kennedy assassination was fresh in the country’s mind. Conspiracy theories were brewing. The Beatles were on the air invading the airwaves, but not yet on American soil. Ed Sullivan was plotting his next move.

Herbert A Gilbert had already invented the first e-cigarette – almost a year before his patent originally Filed Apr. 17, 1963.

There was no social media – no way to look something up on Google. Look & Life magazines were “Google”.  A gallon of gas was $ .25. My older brother John wasn’t even a gleam in the old mans eye, yet. I eventually came along in 1967…. I’ll put my beads & mop tops away now, and focus on this:

FIFTY-ONE years. To improve? That’s the spirit. What THEY are doing is not working in the United States. What they are doing is lying.

What they are doing is without integrity. They tell you to “keep trying”, call the quitline, you’re not trying hard enough. It may take a few tries, We have products available that are approved.

E-cigarettes are not pharmaceutical. They are not tobacco. They are, however, a viable solution to tobacco use, if the user chooses to do so. To pretend e-cigarettes are bad is a “Professor of Tobacco Control“‘s job? The director of the CDC, Tom Frieden?  Neither of those have a conflict of interest…

I’ll get back to who’s job this is.

Lets look quickly (and sadly) at two men who represent the United States “Health Care” with questionable integrity.

Earlier this year, the CDC’s Director, Tom Frieden made a decision to be cute. He decided it was a good idea -confusing people with ads on television and billboards. He’s tweeted, set off the #CDCTips (Tips From A Former Smoker) with the impression of e-cigarettes being bad because a smoker kept smoking ((while using an e-cigarette)), and sadly lost her lung. Who knows the truth.

He also tweeted and proclaimed youth, children, tobacco products….

The present Surgeon General chose, embarrassingly to say “we don’t know enough” but kids should not use them.

You all reading know the deal.

When will the lack of integrity catch up in the United States? HOW and WHEN will they be held accountable?

Public Health England released their evidence update to the WORLD.

Public Health England Ecigarettes_an_evidence_update_A_report_commissioned_by_Public_Health_England(6)

Is their report pristine? No.

Is it responsible? Yes.

It gives responsible exposure to the subject. Opens very large doors to smokers. It tells the world there is a viable option, it opens up the world of reducing tobacco in the world responsibly. It creates a solution for the fairy tale goal of tobacco control.

The United States and a select group of idiots worldwide CHOOSE to continue to hide their heads in the sand and pretend it is bad. (Yes, Christoper Snowden brilliantly covered you here – Chapman, McKee, and Glantz, hoping he does Capewell soon).

controlexperts

WHERE is the reaction, agreement or even a contradiction of the PHE report from the CDC & Surgeion General? The U.S. Health Organizations? The Doctors pretending they’re experts? Playing grab-ass with themselves? They don’t have one, they’re trying to hide from it.

They’re not going to recognize it? They’re not going to acknowledge it?

headinsand

Well, my favorite engineer in the whole wide world, Professor Glantz, a “Professor of Tobacco Control” (self-titled?) who’s criteria is spelled out CLEARLY here

glantzcriteria

and his conflict of interest is clearly shown here,

and here

and Glantz DID do some cherry-picking and complaining of “conflict of interest” of the Public Health England report here)

This is a SUBSTANTIAL list of various organizations who are supporting Public Health England.

The only improvement to tobacco control I’m seeing in the United States is more taxes, restrictions, regulation processes and bans on e-cigarettes. The only thing I’m seeing in the United States is ignoring the PHE report without cause, without question, and with questionable integrity to the public. You’d think, after all, the effort in tobacco control in the United States is just about money not health. You’d think they wanted you to smoke.

The Beatles, like them or not, changed the face of music.

The e-cigarette, like it or not, has already changed the face (or “two-faced” opponents) of tobacco, tobacco control efforts and the world.

The American public is being lied to like the rest of the world. The honesty of Public Health England, and all involved is a step in the right direction. The path to irrelevance is going to be a lonely one, with less support for the true causes you do represent. Few in the United States are taking the initiative to be honest. Many are arrogant, few have integrity.

I thank those of you who do.

E-cigarette research, it’s here.

Medical Professionals are here in support of e-cigarettes at M.O.V.E.

It’s our job to enlighten the public. I encourage you to #DoSomething.

I want you to fight for your lives and a choice for smokers in the future as Dr. Farsalinos has stated.
